MultiRail 2008 User Workshop and Rail Planning Conference

Oliver Wyman’s MultiModal Practice is pleased to announce MultiRail 2008, a rail planning workshop and conference, to be held on October 22nd and 23rd at the historic Nassau Inn, situated in the heart of Princeton, New Jersey. The Nassau Inn is located about 10 minutes from our Princeton office and is only about an hour’s drive from either the Newark or Philadelphia Airports.

You do not have to be a MultiRail user to attend or to gain some value from this workshop.  As always, there will be presentations and discussions on MultiRail, but there will also be an opportunity for attendees to share ideas and experiences in the areas of service design, asset utilization, network planning, locomotive optimization, traffic analysis tools, and more.  We expect attendees from major freight railways in North America, Australia, Africa, Europe and Asia.

On the agenda will be presentations and demonstrations on the latest rail software products being developed in Princeton, including:

  • The latest versions of MultiRail Enterprise Edition, showing some of the highlights of customizations prepared for current licensees
  • Locomotive Optimizer, which is being upgraded and will soon be integrated with the Enterprise Edition
  • Traffic Flow Analyzer (TFA), a rail traffic data analysis tool being released later this year.  Given a railway traffic file, the TFA will generate user-defined extractions and will geographically display the volume and type of products and train services using each rail line, including “drill downs” that pull up individual waybills.
  • Other tools for hazardous material routing, intermodal car/wagon optimization and block optimization

We will also have presentations from railroads and open discussions on the state of rail planning in North America and other regions of the world.

The event will kick off with a welcome reception on the evening of October 21st at the Nassau Inn.  We will hold a full day of workshop sessions on Wednesday the 22nd and we hope that you will join us for dinner at the conclusion of the conference day.  Workshop meetings will continue on Thursday morning the 23rd, with the workshop wrap-up session at 3:00 PM.

The preliminary agenda and conference pricing will be available in early July and our registration form will be available on the site at that time.  If you wish, you can pre-register by contacting Bonnie Painter via e-mail at bonnie.painter@oliverwyman.com or call Bonnie at +1 609-419-9800.

MultiRail 2006 User Workshop and Rail Planning Conference

The MultiModal Systems Practice of Mercer Management Consulting concluded a very successful MultiRail User Workshop and Rail Planning Conference on May 25-26, 2006, at the Chauncey Conference Center in Princeton, New Jersey. More than thirty rail executives attended, including representatives of most of the major freight railroads in North America. The conference sessions focused on the use of MultiModal's MultiRail software tools for developing rail operating plans.

All of the attending Class I railroads, including Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, Canadian Pacific, BNSF, and CSX, made presentations offering insight into the very detailed planning processes and tools used by these large freight railroads. Also presenting were Rodney Case and Robert Reid, members of Mercer's Surface Transportation practice, and MultiModal staff members.

MultiModal is already planning its next User Workshop and Rail Planning Conference, which will likely be held in Central or Eastern Europe in October. For more information, contact Kevin Foy.
